LECTURE; Educator’s Note Book: Questions and Answers
Ahmet Öner Gezgin graduated from Istanbul State Academy of Fine Arts, Department of Textile Design in 1970. Upon getting a scholarship, he specialised in the fields of “Experimental Photography” and “Graphic Design” in “Gesamthochschule Kassel” in Germany. He participated seminars in Chalon-Sur-Saon, France, in 1975 and also in Salzburg Summer Academy to which he had been invited by Austrian Ministry of Science and Research in 1981. He started working as a Research Assistant t Istanbul State Academy of Fine Arts in 1978. Became a Assistant professor in 1987, Associate Professor in 1988, Professor in 1998.
He has taken parts in several joint exhibitions both at home and abroad. He opened his first solo exhibition in Kassel in 1974, followed by four others; “Reality and Fantasy (1980)” in Istanbul, “Experimental Photography (1980)” in Osnabruck, Germany, “Conceptual and Visual Images 1 (1989)” in the 2nd Istanbul Art Biennale, and “Conceptual and Visual Images 2 (1990)”, in Ankara. These exhibitions were followed by many others in Marmara University, Faculty of Fine Arts and Istanbul.
He has participated in several seminars, lectures, panel discussions and symposiums; his articles on photography have been published in media.
He has prizes in national and international competitions. He has been awarded a mansion prize at the Germany Inter-Academy Poster Competition in 1975. He was also awarded the first place in local and second place in regional Akbank Photography Competition in 1980. In the 11th edition of Art Directors Index, in 1985 he was awarded a “Page” award. His other awards include; a mansion from the Ministry of Culture, 51th State Exhibition in 1990, a success award from the 12th Istanbul exhibition of Istanbul Institute of Fine Arts Foundation Contemporary Artists in 1991. He was elected as the “most successful Photographic Artist of the year” by Ankara Foundation of Art in 1991.
Prof. Dr. Ahmet Oner Gezgin is also one of the devoted pioneers who started up the philosophy of Experimental Photography to the concept of photography in Turkey.
He served in Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University as the Vice Rector, He acted as the Dean of Fine Arts at MSU and Head of Photography Department at the same university. He retired in 2007.
He acted as the Dean of Fine Arts Faculty of Isık University, he also served in FMV Isik University Faculty of Fine Arts Dean’s Office to serve as the Head of the Department of Fashion and Textile Design in FMV Isik University Faculty of Fine Arts.
He is currently the head of the Department of Fashion and Textile Design and instructor at Fine Arts Faculty of Isık University.
